Cardigan disaster

I've been working steadily on my Drops cardigan, but I do it mostly in the evening, cuddled up on the couch, with so-so lighting and without really looking at the entire work. So imagine my surprise the other day when I pulled it out and looked at it in daylight and realized there was a giganormous difference between the dye lots!!!  I bought the yarn on two different occasions, at two different stores, and look at the line!!!  It's a disaster....

If anyone has any suggestions...  My first instinct is to dye it, but then I wonder if the difference won't show with dye too. I'm going to finish it because it's my first cardigan and I think it's going to fit pretty well and I want to finish it, but it's SOOO annoying.  Not only that, but I'm actually out of yarn now, so on Saturday I need to go pick up another couple of skiens, and who knows that that colour will turn out like.

  1. Well, well ;)

If I were you, I think I would undo the cardigan until the colour change.
Then I shall knit one or two rows with a contrasting color like white, beige, black or green apple, and after I go on with the second dye yarn... Well, it's just an idea...

  2. That's actually a really good idea. I hadn't thought about it. But I don't want to undo... :-( But it's true, if there's something in between then it will look like a "design feature" instead of a dying disaster. Mmmm.... I could also sew a stripe across in a contrasting colour, but then I wonder if the sewn stripe won't look like I'm hiding something...

But thanks for the idea, I'll think about it.

  3. I think Pascale's idea is the better. It is more work but still, it really would like a design feature. I'm not sure what you mean by sewing a stripe... of what? Gold lamé? But how about stitching a series of x's or whatever, like embroidery? Then people would see the embroidery and not pay attention to the colour of the wool underneath.

  4. Someone on Ravelry suggested dying it with black tea. I've seen samples and it looks really good. I think the black tea would be the perfect match for the beige of the cardigan, and I think (or hope) that the dye will take more on the lighter side. So I will finish knitting it and they experiment a bit with dyeing in black tea and we'll see what happens!!
