I am thankful for: mountains

(This entry and the next one are written today, but deal with previous days. I didn't have a computer to post the entries on, but did take time at the end of each day to consider what I was thankful for, and I'm reporting now)

On Friday we went up a "mountain" with a cable car.  I put mountain in quotation marks because although there is an official limit that delimits hills and mountains, most people go with what they grew up with, and when you grow up in Switzerland, "mountains" are very very high. So the hill in Tromsø didn't quite measure up in terms of hight, but the experience was wonderful nonetheless. The cable car ride was short, but the view of the island and the surroundings was priceless. There is no sun at this time of year in Tromsø, but there is light, and we went when there was quite a bit of it, and left when it was dark so that we got to see Tromsø and the surrounding areas under changing lights. Absolutely beautiful. Add to that a hot chocolate at the cafe on top and we had a genuine mountain experience, which naturally brought back tons of fond memories.
