I am thankful for: innocence

My goodness, I just completly forgot to write a post yesterday!!

So here it is:

Today we went to our first toddler's gymnastics class. As the "gymnasts" are all toddlers, there are no specific excercises, there are just a bunch of apparatus set out in the gym and they get to run around and play on/with/under whatever they like. Hubby had an important purchase to make during that time, so I was went in (at least one parent for each kid must attend and help out since they are so small) with our toddler and did the warm up with her ("run after your children around the gym", which somehow became "run after Mommy and see if she will crawl under the benches to tickle me"), and then took her around to try out the different areas of the gym.

This of course involved a lot of running, crawling, lifting, jumping, encouraging, and applauding on my part, and we both enjoyed it, but were both ready for a little nap at the end. There were other parents or grandparents there, also having a good time, but I wonder if any of them had the same amazing feeling I had being there: Until I was 10, my parents pushed me in a stroller if there was any walking to be done, and I went to my first gym class after I had surgery, when I was 11.

The gymnastics class was something I don't think anyone who knew me when I was a toddler myself would ever, ever, ever have imagined. First, I was running around and helping her up and down and over and under, and then, I was there because I had a daughter. To boot, I get to be thankful for a healthy daughter who was completely oblivious to the fact that this was anything special, just as it should be.

Now before anyone gets all annoyed here, yes, I would have been very thankful had my toddler not been able to do this too, of course, but what I mean is that I am now in the priviledged position of enjoying her innocence, knowing precicely how precious it is, and that is in itself a wonderful thing too.

  1. Actually there may be a lot of hidden stories in that class, specially if they are hiding them as well as you are. Go, little engine, go.

  2. Yes that's very true, but I like to think mine is MORE special :-)
